WHO to Host Webinar on Implementing Patient Blood Management to Improve Global Blood Health

October, 2025, Geneva, Switzerland — The World Health Organization (WHO) announces a forthcoming webinar titled “WHO Guidance on Implementing Patient Blood Management to Improve Global Blood Health Status,” scheduled for Tuesday, November 18, 2025, from 13:00 to 16:15 CET. This global event will focus on guiding healthcare systems across diverse resource settings on adopting Patient Blood Management (PBM) practices to optimize blood use and improve patient outcomes.

The webinar is organized by the WHO Medicines and Health Products Policies and Standards Department under the Blood System Program. It aims to share knowledge on the WHO PBM Implementation Guidance, featuring expert insights from international leaders, clinicians, and policymakers actively advancing PBM worldwide.

WHO Director of the Medicines and Health Products Policies and Standards Department, Dr. Deusdedit Mubangizi, will open the webinar, with closing remarks by Dr. Yuyun Maryuningsih, outlining next steps in global PBM implementation.

Key speakers leading the first session include Dr. Yuyun Maryuningsih from WHO headquarters, Dr. Axel Hofmann, Chair of the WHO’s External Steering Committee on the Implementation of PBM and Dr. Irwin Gross, Co-Chair of the WHO’s External Steering Committee. Key Speakers will introduce the PBM 8-Model framework and discuss implementation strategies and metrics.

The clinician experience segment will spotlight global examples of successful PBM implementation from Brazil, Mexico, UAE, USA, Portugal, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Presenters include Dr. Denise Brunetta, Dr. Ángel Augusto Pérez-Calatayud, Dr. Tarek Ansari, Sherri Ozawa RN, Dr. Diana Castro Paupério, Dr. Petro-Lize Wessels, and Dr. Daniela Filipescu.

A moderated Q&A session chaired by Dr. Neil Blumberg from the University of Rochester Medical Center will allow participants to engage directly with experts.
