IFPBM Scientific Associate to present at the 4th Annual Perioperative Patient Blood Management Symposium in Brisbane, Australia

The 4th Annual Perioperative Patient Blood Management Symposium – Perioperative Critical Bleeding – hosted by the Centre for Excellence and Innovation in Anaesthesia (CEIA) – will be held in Brisbane, Australia from 14 & 15 February 2020. The symposium will present the latest research and knowledge on Patient Blood Management (PBM). 

The Symposium features a presentation by Professor James Isbister AM, a Scientific Associate of The International Foundation for Patient Blood Management (IFPBM) entitled “Improving outcomes for hospital patients with critical bleeding”. Professor Isbister is currently chair of the NBA PBM Implementation Steering Committee and the Australian and New Zealand Massive Transfusion Registry. His broad range of contributions to clinical, research and teaching in haematology, transfusion medicine and patient blood management have been acknowledged with National and International awards, including membership of the Order of Australia.

Convenor of the Symposium, A/Prof Dr Kerstin Wyssusek, stated “PBM is complex and its implementation often presents many challenges. We will focus on the importance and evidence in Perioperative Patient Blood Management and provide advice on implementation strategies. Our dedicated workshop day on Friday 14th February will provide hands on experience with plenty of take-home material. Clinicians have the opportunity to exhibit their scientific poster with the best poster prize awarded at the conclusion of the symposium.” Dr Wyssusek is the Director of the Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) and chair of the RBWH Perioperative Patient Blood Management committee.
