Patient Blood Management (PBM) Awareness Week, held from 3–7 November 2025, spotlighted the critical role of blood health in improving patient outcomes and strengthening healthcare systems across Europe.
Led by Blood and Beyond, the campaign raised awareness about blood as the body’s “forgotten organ” and echoed World Health Organization (WHO) guidance that maintaining healthy blood is essential for human life and well-being. By addressing anaemia and blood loss through prevention and better management, PBM enhances patient safety while reducing strain on blood supplies — building more resilient and efficient health systems.
Blood and Beyond reaffirmed its commitment to work with governments, healthcare professionals, and patients to ensure that blood health remains a central part of European public health policy. As Cyprus prepared for its 2026 EU Council Presidency, the initiative underscored the urgent need to keep blood health on the European agenda.
