Dr. Ángel Augusto Pérez Calatayud is a board-certified physician in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Medicine, specializing in Patient Blood Management (PBM), transfusion medicine, and critical care of complex surgical and transplant patients.
He is the founding President of the Ibero-American Society of Patient Blood Management (SIAPBM) and a Scientific Associate of the International Foundation for Patient Blood Management (IFPBM) since 2021.
Dr. Ángel Augusto Pérez Calatayud is also recognized as a Level I National Researcher by Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNI, CONACYT) and Honorary Doctorate (Doctor Honoris Causa) for Leadership in Health (2024).

Dr Diana Castro Paupério
Brief Resume
Dr Diana Castro Paupério is a Consultant Anaesthesiologist at the Local Health Unit of Gaia and Espinho (ULSGE), Portugal, practising anaesthesia for cardiac surgery and structural interventional cardiology. She is a recognised leader in Patient Blood Management (PBM), serving as Coordinator of the Integrated PBM Value Unit and of the PBM Committee at ULSGE, and as President of the Portuguese Chapter of the Ibero-American Society of PBM (SIAPBM).
Her contribution to the field extends from frontline clinical practice to international policy: she acted as a reviewer of the World Health Organization’s Guidance on Implementing Patient Blood Management to Improve Global Blood Health Status (2025) and co-founded the PBM Iberic Task Force and the Luso-Brazilian Partnership in PBM with InCor.
An Invited Assistant Professor at the University of Aveiro and a PhD candidate in Biomedicine, she leads research on the digital transformation of PBM through patient-reported outcomes and machine learning. Her work has been published and recognised internationally, including by the International Hospital Federation. She is committed to advancing PBM as a global standard of safe, value-based care.

Dr. Matti Aapro received his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Geneva, Switzerland. He was a fellow at the Arizona Cancer Center in Tucson and was the founding chair of the Medical and Radiation Therapy Department at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan.

Prof. Erhard obtained his medical degree at the University of Cologne, Hamburg and Essen,Germany in 1979. He was an intern at the Department of Surgery and Transplantation Medical Highschool, Hanover, Germany, the Department of Hepato-Biliary-Surgery and Transplantation, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, UK and the Department of Surgery and Transplantation, University Clinic, Madison, WI, USA.
He obtained a Doctor of Medicine in pediatric surgery in 1983.He served as Assistant in the University Clinic of Surgery, Consultant in Surgical ICU, Pediatric Surgery until 1986 and was next appointed as Senior Registrar and Deputy Director of the Clinic of General Surgery and Transplantation in Essen, Germany. In 1998 he was appointed as a Professor at theUniversity of Essen and received the Koehler Award of the German Society for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. The same year he accepted a position as the Head of Department for General and Vascular Surgery, County Hospital Gladbeck, Germany before taking up his current position at Dinslaken in 2000.
Since 2001, Prof. Erhard has been a Guest lecturer at the Universidad Miguel Hernandez, Elche (Alicante), Spain and by appointment of the German Secretary of Health, a Member of the taskforce “Blood” since 2004.Other professional activities he has been involved with since 2000 include:
